"I have sad news about Jonah Poplove."

It was a Saturday.

I remember because I was playing in ballet class when I got the email.

It was my best friend's step-brother, trying to reach me:

"Hi Stelth. My name is Joel Kom, and I'm Jonah Poplove's step-brother. I'm trying to get in touch with you to let you know some sad news about Jonah."

It was September 23, 2017, at 5:46 PM.

I remember my heart pounding as I left the ballet studio. Dialling the number - I dreaded the conversation that was about to happen.

At the back of my mind, I knew almost with complete certainty what I was about to be told.

It was that uneasy gut feeling that just gnaws away at you that you couldn't ignore.

As just two weeks ago, I had been in touch with Jonah. On my return flight back from Seattle after several weeks exploring the West Coast of the US, I decided to send Jonah a text, asking him how he was doing.

"It's Stelth. How are you doing?"

It had been six months since we'd spoken. In fact, in March of 2017, Jonah had actually visited me in Toronto. We spent the better part of a week catching up, playing chess, going out, and even performing a concert and lecture demonstration for visually impaired children at The Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

Jonah's reply came within hours:

"Hey, not good. Back in the hospital."
